WAYNE, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- Residents discovered remains of a human fetus in the basement of their New Jersey home this week, authorities said as they launched an investigation.

The grim find was made at a home in Wayne on Sunday evening, the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office said Monday.
Wayne police officers responded to a call from the residence around 5:45 p.m.
Someone opened a storage container in the basement and found the fetal remains inside before alerting cops, prosecutors said.
The medical examiner took custody of the remains. An autopsy will be performed as part of the investigation.
Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia Valdes said the probe is active and ongoing.
