Former NJ police officer sentenced to 4 years for attempted sexual assault of unconscious woman

KEANSBURG, N.J (WCBS 880) -- A former New Jersey police officer was sentenced to four years in a state prison for the attempted sexual assault of an unconscious woman, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond Santiago announced Tuesday.

Nicholas Thompson, 26, was an off-duty Class II special officer with the Keansburg Police Department when he tried to assault the woman at a private home in January 2021, officials said.

In October 2021, Thompson was arrested and charged. He was also suspended without pay just weeks after being sworn in as a patrolman.

Thompson was sentenced Friday, according to Department of Corrections records.

He must also to register as a sex offender and parole supervision for life and will be required to serve 85% of his sentence before he is eligible for parole on May 7, 2026.

Thompson can also never again hold a public job.
