Newark police first spotted a vehicle that had been reported stolen around Hunterdon Avenue and Renner Avenue around 12:15 p.m., police said.

The officers then chased the car onto the northbound New Jersey Turnpike where they were joined by New Jersey State Police after they received a “be on the lookout” alert from Newark police, authorities said.

Cops said the driver drove north into Bergen County on the Turnpike before speeding onto Route 80 while patrol cars followed with their lights and sirens flashing.

The driver then got off Route 80 on Exit 58B in Passaic County continuing onto Madison Avenue in Paterson. The pursuit ended after the driver blew through a red light on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way and crashed, State Police said.

Four male teens, two 14-year-olds, a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old, were arrested and charged with several weapons offenses and eluding. The four boys were brought to the Essex County Juvenile Detention Center.

Police also seized two 9mm handguns, a high-capacity magazine, and hollow-point ammunition, authorities said. No injuries resulted from the crash.
An investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
