NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police are searching for a man who they said hopped into an idling SUV in East Harlem and drove off with an 11-year-old boy in the passenger seat.

The NYPD released surveillance video of the suspect Tuesday after he allegedly stole an orange Nissan Rogue in front of the City Fresh Market at Third Avenue and E. 121st Street just before 8 p.m. Sunday.
The boy’s 36-year-old father had left his son in the passenger seat of the running vehicle when the thief jumped in the driver's seat, according to police.
He sped away up Third Avenue with the boy, police said.
About 20 minutes later, he let the child out at Bolton and Lafayette streets in the Soundview section of the Bronx, police said.

The boy used his cellphone to call his father and tell him his location. Police then located the child and reunited the two of them.
Around 9:30 p.m., the suspect was spotted at a BP gas station on Hillside Avenue in Bellerose, Queens. Police said he stole a cellphone charger from the gas station and fled.
The boy was unharmed, according to police. However, he was taken to Harlem Hospital for minor neck pain on Monday. Police said the suspect sideswiped two cars during the theft, causing the injury to the boy.
Police are still searching for the Nissan Rogue, which they described as a 2017 model.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
