Angel Salas, of Deer Park, died after suffering serious injuries in the crash early last Monday. He had been taken to Stony Book University Hospital following the crash, though police haven't confirmed when he died.

The boy’s 49-year-old father was driving a Toyota Corolla in the westbound lanes of the Long Island Expressway in Farmingville around 1:50 a.m. when the car was rear-ended by a BMW driven by Travis Dickson, 27, of Brooklyn, police said.

Salas was rushed to Stony Book, while his father was treated at the same hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Dickson, who was allegedly drunk at the time of the crash, was also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Salas was kept on life support so his organs could be donated, according to a GoFundMe page set up for his parents.

Stony Brook Children's Hospital employees reportedly lined the hallways as he was wheeled to an operating room, a tribute for organ donors known as an “honor walk.” His donation helped three people in need.

“We can only be responsible for our choices, and even though we love our family, we love our children, we cannot control what other people do,” the boy's mother, Juliana Salas, told News 12.

Dickson faces a charge of driving while intoxicated. He was being held on a $100,000 bail, Newsday reported.
