The victims, 37-year-old Michael Hamilton and 47-year-old Norman Batiz, were driving southbound on the highway in a 2022 Honda Accord just after midnight when the accident occurred, police said.
An initial investigation revealed that Hamilton, who was operating the vehicle, lost control and struck a barrier near the 125th Street exit.
Responding officers found the victims unconscious upon arrival. Both were transported to NYC Health and Hospitals/Harlem where they were pronounced dead.
The investigation is ongoing by the New York City Police Department's Highway Patrol Collision Investigation Squad.
