3 LI cops treated for smoke inhalation after saving dog from house fire

DEER PARK, N.Y. (WCBS 880) — Three Suffolk County police officers came to the rescue of a dog that became trapped in a burning home on Monday morning.

A call came in to 911 about 11:45 a.m. about the blaze, which broke out at a home on Homer Avenue in Deer Park.

Officers Zakary Goldbach, Joaquin Castillo and Justin Oshea arrived at the scene to see thick black smoke coming from house.

A resident then told the officers that a dog and cat were still inside.

The officers ran into the home and found the dog, which was brought outside and reunited with its family.

The cat managed to escape the inferno on its own and was found unharmed.

The officers suffered smoke inhalation and were treated at South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore.

No other injuries were reported.

Arson detectives are investigating the cause of the fire.
