NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Three teens were dead and a fourth was in critical condition Monday following a horrific crash on Staten Island Sunday night.

A Ford Mustang the teens were in was traveling at an “unsafe speed” eastbound on Hylan Boulevard in Tottenville around 8:45 p.m. when it collided with a GMC Yukon SUV that was heading westbound and making a left turn onto Richard Avenue, according to police.
Two teens were ejected from the Mustang as the vehicle struck a tree and split in two, police said. The front half of the Mustang then slid down Hylan Boulevard, mounted a sidewalk and struck and uprooted a small tree before crashing into a telephone pole.
“Just debris everywhere,” said Anthony Castellano, who lives nearby. “One car broken in half. And two young people deceased on the street.”

All three of the fatalities were teen passengers in the Mustang. A 15-year-old boy in a rear passenger seat and a 16-year-old girl in the front passenger seat were pronounced dead at the scene. A 15-year-old girl in a rear passenger seat died later at Staten Island University Hospital North.
The driver of the Mustang was in critical but stable condition at the same hospital.
The 16-year-old girl who died was identified as Fernanda Gil, while the 15-year-old boy was identified as her brother, Jesie Gil. The 15-year-old girl was ID'd as Ashley Rodriguez. All of them were from Staten Island.
A 47-year-old man driving the GMC and his four passengers—a 44-year-old woman, 23-year-old man, 19-year-old woman and 11-year-old girl—suffered minor injuries and were taken to Staten Island University Hospital North.
Police said the GMC’s driver was taken into custody for a suspended driver’s license.
Residents said speeding is a problem in the area, and police believe it was a factor in the crash, as the NYPD's investigation continues.
“We petitioned the city at one point to put one of those metal barriers here, because people kept crashing into our property,” Castellano said.
