In addition to murder, the teen faces charges of manslaughter and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon. He was not identified because of his age.
Police believe the teen is the shooter who gunned down Rafael Jimenez, 29, outside 2323 Walton Ave. in Fordham Heights on the morning of June 7.
Jimenez, of Brooklyn, was found lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to his head after the 11:30 a.m. shooting. He was pronounced dead at St. Barnabas Hospital.
Police reportedly connected the teen to the fatal shooting after he walked into the 47th Precinct stationhouse with his mother.
The NYPD had released an image of the teen in connection to a robbery spree in the Bronx and Manhattan, and he showed up at the police station after seeing the image, the Daily News reported. It’s unclear if investigators believe the shooting is connected to the string of robberies.
Jimenez was released from prison in early January after serving more than six years in state prison for felony assault in connection with an attack in Bedford-Stuyvesant in which the victim was bludgeoned with a concrete slab, according to the report.
