Ramon Pena-Fernandez, of Tremont, was crossing East Tremont and Park avenues – just blocks away from his home – around 1 p.m. on Oct. 19 when he was hit by a 2013 Jeep Wrangler SUV.

Authorities said the 69-year-old driver was trying to make a right turn onto Park Avenue and struck Pena-Fernandez. It remains unclear if he was in the crosswalk at the time of the incident.

Authorities said Pena-Fernandez fell to the ground and suffered a laceration to his head.

He was immediately rushed to Saint Barnabas Hospital in serious condition. Pena-Fernandez remained hospitalized until his death on Monday.

The NYPD did not say if the driver, whose identity was not released, would be facing any charges in connection with the incident.

The investigation remains ongoing by the NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad.
