NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A privately-owned garbage truck struck and killed a 62-year-old man Friday afternoon at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Flatbush Avenue by the Barclays Center, according to police.

The intersection is one of the busiest and most dangerous in Brooklyn. There have been 36 crashes and two pedestrian deaths at the intersection over the past decade, according to NYC Crash Mapper — a public tool that tracks car accidents in New York City.
Authorities say the truck pinned the man to the ground just after 3:30 p.m. Emergency responders declared him dead at the scene.
Photos from the New York Daily News show a Target shopping bag and a mobility walker lying near the wheels of the truck.
The driver remained at the scene and was questioned by the police. No arrests have been made.
Police are withholding the identity of the victim pending notification of his family.
Lincoln Restler, the City Councilmember for the district where the crash happened, called for action from the Department of Transportation to make the notoriously dangerous intersection safer for pedestrians.
