According to police, the victim was walking on April 20 at 5 a.m. in front of 18 Melrose Street in Bushwick when he was approached from behind by a group of five unknown individuals— three males and two females.

One of the males grabbed the victim and punched him in the head, while a second male brandished a hammer and demanded the victim's property. The victim then ran from the location, dropping his cellphone to the ground, which was removed by one of the other individuals.

The victim was not seriously injured and refused medical attention upon reporting the incident to police, officials said.

The group was last seen walking in the vicinity of Bushwick Avenue and Jefferson Street.

The group of individuals is described as approximately in their late teens to early 20s, with thin builds.

Anyone with information in regard to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS.
