Boiling grease scalds boy during Brooklyn playground brawl, woman arrested

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Boiling grease was knocked onto a young boy when a fight broke out during a large gathering at a Brooklyn playground on Sunday night, police said.

The fight erupted around 9:30 p.m. at a barbecue at Heckscher Playground on Linden Street in Bushwick.

During the melee, a 36-year-old woman who police described as the "aggressor" knocked over a pot of boiling grease, police said.

The hot oil landed on the 5-year-old boy and his 27-year-old father, scalding both of them.

The boy suffered burns to his arms and back, while his father was burned on his foot. They were taken to Weill Cornell Medicine's burn center and are expected to survive.

A 15-year-old boy was also punched in the face during the fight, police said.

The woman was arrested on charges of assault and reckless endangerment.
