NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A man was shot in the head and critically injured by a would-be robber early Friday as he was pumping gas in the Bronx, police said.
The 51-year-old victim was filling his white Range Rover at the Gulf station at Webster Avenue and E. 175th Street in the Mount Hope section around 12:45 a.m. when a man tried to rob him.
The victim sprayed the man in the face with gas during the holdup and in return was shot in the face, police said.
The victim was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital in very critical condition.
The suspect ran away in an unknown direction and was still being sought Friday.
As the investigation continued, an area security guard named Malik told WCBS 880 his heart hurts for the victim.
“The guy was pumping gas and then gets shot in the head, man,” he said. “I mean life is crazy like that.”
