SECAUCUS, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- A 26-year-old man was charged for stabbing a prostitute after he allegedly demanded a refund at a New Jersey hotel over on Sunday, authorities said.
Vineeth Ravuri, was charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, criminal restraint, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon and engaging in prostitution, Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller said.
According to officials, Ravuri met the woman at the Aloft Hotel on Harmon Meadow Boulevard in Secaucus “with the purpose of engaging in sexual activity in exchange for money.”
At 8:42 p.m. Secaucus police responded to the hotel where they found a woman in the lobby of the hotel bleeding from her hand.
The woman told officers that she asked Ravuri to leave the hotel room, he brandished a knife and demanded his money back.
She refused to give him a refund and a struggle ensued, police said. Ravuri then allegedly lunged at the woman, slicing her finger and buttocks.
Ravuri attempted to stop the woman from leaving the room, but she managed to run into the hallway and yell for help, Miller said.
The woman was treated for her injuries at the scene.
Officers arrested Ravuri in the lobby of the hotel after he was found in possession of a bloody knife used in the attack, Miller said. He also had blood on his jacket and foot.
“Prostitution is not a victimless crime,” Miller said. “Prostitutes are frequently victims themselves of physical and sexual assaults and robbery. Due to the sheer number of hotel rooms, Secaucus is appealing to those engaged in this illicit activity. However, the SPD will continue to conduct proactive operations in hopes of suppressing prostitution, which is often the root of other heinous crimes.”
