Vargas was wanted for the Oct. 10 shooting death of 37-year-old Kareem McCarthy on 10th Street at 40th Avenue at the Queensbridge Houses in Long Island City during a confrontation that happened just before 2 a.m., authorities said.

McCarthy was shot in the chest and rushed to New York-Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell where he was pronounced dead.

Police said the men had rivals for about a decade.

Officials were able to track Vargas down after obtaining surveillance footage of both men together and the license plate of the car he fled in.
