Neighbors called 911 after hearing gunshots around 6 a.m. at the six-story building near Gates and Lewis avenues.

Responding NYPD officers found both victims unresponsive with gunshot wounds to the head in the kitchen of a second-floor apartment.

Police believe a 41-year-old man shot a 36-year-old woman and then shot himself.

Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene. They have not been identified, and their relationship wasn't immediately known.

Police said a gun was recovered amid an ongoing investigation.
