The suspect woke up and punched the MTA employee multiple times which caused his face to swell to his ear, police said.

“Assaulting a transit employee trying to keep trains moving is incomprehensible and we have zero tolerance for it," said MTA spokesperson Aaron Donovan. "The MTA is cooperating with the NYPD and providing assistance to help ensure the perpetrator is caught and can be prosecuted to the maximum extent of the law.”

The victim was transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition.

Anyone with information in regard to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
