Nanny, 69, arrested after stealing over $15K in jewelry from LI employer: police

SMITHTOWN, N.Y. (WCBS 880) — A 69-year-old nanny was arrested on Wednesday after she allegedly stole more than $15,000 worth of jewelry from her employer for nearly a month, Suffolk County Police said.

According to police, Amparo Hoyos Garcia worked as a nanny for a family on Grassy Pond Drive in Smithtown and allegedly stole the jewelry between December 22 and Wednesday.

Officials said she also works for other families as a nanny and cleans houses.

Hoyos Garcia, of Patchogue, was arrested Wednesday morning and charged with third-degree grand larceny.

She was scheduled for arraignment Thursday at First District Court in Central Islip.

Detectives are asking anyone who believes they are a victim of Hoyos Garcia to call the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.
