Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams takes top spot for first time in new NYC mayoral poll

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Andrew Yang has been bumped out of the top spot in the latest New York City mayoral poll.

The survey, conducted by the polling firm GQR, shows Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams leading the crowded Democratic field for the first time with 21%.

Entrepreneur and former 2020 presidential candidate Yang dropped to second place with 18%.

City Comptroller Scott Stringer follows in third place with 15%, but the poll, commissioned by Council Speaker Corey Johnson's campaign for comptroller, was conducted before a woman came forward with allegations of sexual harassment and misconduct against Stringer.

Other candidates, including Shaun Donovan, Maya Wiley, Kathryn Garcia, Ray McGuire and Dianne Morales, failed to hit double digitals.

The poll surveyed 500 likely Democratic primary voters from April 27 to 29.

Yang has previously claimed the top spot in every poll conducted since he entered the race in January, with Adams at his heels.

“This poll shows what we have seen on the ground for months: that New Yorkers want Eric to be the next mayor because they share his vision for a safer, fairer city where prosperity is shared by all,” a spokesperson for Adams told the New York Post.

“Every other poll has us in first place but we’ve always said this would be a close race, including in this small sample sized poll,” a Yang spokesperson said. “The only poll that really matters is the one on June 22 and we expect to win that one."

The new poll comes as Yang launched his first TV campaign ad Thursday.
