NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – There will be “iconic” concerts in all five New York City boroughs during the “Homecoming Week” in August, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Thursday.

A massive concert was already planned for the Great Lawn in Central Park, featuring headliners Paul Simon, Jennifer Hudson and Bruce Springsteen.

But de Blasio said the city is now planning a concert in each borough during the week marking the city’s comeback from the pandemic, with the "grand finale" in Central Park.

“All in Homecoming Week. Five iconic, extraordinary concerts. One in each borough,” the mayor said at his daily briefing.

De Blasio compared the concerts to Woodstock and said people will regret not going.

“Unless you want to spend the rest of your life saying, ‘Oh my God, I missed it,’ you should get to New York City in the month of August,” the mayor said.

In addition to Central Park, there will be concerts at Forest Hills Stadium, Brooklyn Army Terminal, Orchard Beach and Richmond County Bank Ballpark.

“We have some great shows planned for the residents of New York’s outer boroughs, with great performances from all different genres, including hip-hop, Latin, freestyle, dance, R&B, techno and funk,” said Rocky Bucano, president of the Universal Hip Hop Museum, which is partnering with the city to produce the concerts.

Here are the dates and locations for the concerts:

Monday, Aug. 16: Orchard Beach, Bronx

Tuesday, Aug. 17: Richmond County Bank Ballpark, Staten Island

Thursday, Aug. 19: Brooklyn Army Terminal, Brooklyn

Friday, Aug. 20: Forest Hills Stadium, Queens

Saturday, Aug. 21: Great Lawn, Central Park

More information will be posted to nyc.gov/HomecomingWeek.
