NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Authorities are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of a dirt bike rider who struck a 4-year-old boy in a Queens park on Sunday.

According to police, the boy was with his parents at the Meadow Lake boathouse parking lot at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, off the Van Wyck Expressway, when he was struck just before 6 p.m.

The driver fled the scene immediately after the collision.

The 4-year-old was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition with severe head trauma. Authorities say his condition is improving slowly.

As of Tuesday, no arrests had been made in the case.

During an afternoon press conference, NYPD Transportation Bureau Chief Kim Royster sympathized with the boy’s family saying, “No parent should have to endure such a senseless act.”

She stressed that the investigation remains active, and the police department is asking for the public’s help in identifying the driver.

The suspect is described as a male in his 20s or late teens, and possibly Hispanic.

Royster notes the department is offering the cash reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
