NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Officials arrested a 27-year-old NYPD officer on Staten Island early Thursday after he used an expired paper license plate in order to avoid paying tolls, according to the Staten Island District Attorney’s Office.

According to a criminal court complaint, on January 18, another member of the NYPD spotted Marino's 2021 white Mercedes-Benz SUV with fake temporary New Jersey license plates with a different number attached to it.

In an attempt from getting it towed, Marino pulled out several New York license plates from the trunk of the car, the complaint added.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey told investigators that the Benz was captured traveling with invalid plates on the Outerbridge Crossing on 12 occasions between August 2021 and early 2022 without paying the $16 toll.

Marino was arraigned on Thursday and is next due in court on Oct. 4.
