NYPD officer shot in Queens; expected to survive: police

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — An NYPD officer is expected to survive after being shot in the leg in Queens on Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Gunfire erupted outside of a building on 161 Street in Jamaica, which appears to be a homeless shelter, WABC-7 reported.

The officer is being taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center.

Sources told NBC 4 that the officer was shot in the leg and is expected to survive.

Police have reportedly detained one person while looking for another person of interest.

As traffic and emergency personnel are expected, police are requesting that people stay away from the area at this time.
