Officials investigate fatal hit-and-run collision in Jersey City

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- Officials are investigating a fatal hit-and-run collision that occurred early Sunday, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said.

At approximately 12:30 a.m., the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a pedestrian struck in the area of Stegman Avenue and Garfield Avenue.

Responding officers discovered a victim with life-threatening injuries.

He was later identified as a Ralph Haynes, 55, of Jersey City.

The vehicle that struck they victim did not remain at the scene, officials said.

Haynes was transported by EMS to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

An investigation is active.
