When they arrived, they found the 3-year-old mare, named Penny, had become stuck after deciding to take a dip in the inground pool.

The horse had become entangled with the pool cover and got stuck in the deep end.

Police with the help of members of the Bohemia Fire Department were able to free Penny and guide her to the shallow end where she was able to get out of the pool and onto dry land.

Officers later posed for a photo with the horse after the rescue.
