Authorities said Colin McNally, a physical education teacher and coach at Cardozo High School in Bayside, was arrested Wednesday after he attacked the 14-year-old boy.

McNally is charged with acting in a manner injurious to a child.

ABC 7 reports that the incident started after the student played basketball in the gym. McNally reportedly took the ball from the teen and headed to the dean's office.

The teen then attempted to try and get the ball back when McNally attacked him.

Nathaniel Styer, press secretary for the Department of Education, called the allegations "incredibly disturbing."

"Mr. McNally was immediately removed from the classroom away from students, pending the outcome of the investigation," he said in a statement.
