NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The Rockefeller Center ice skating rink reopened Saturday for the 2021-2022 holiday season.
The iconic rink nestled under the complex’s massive Christmas tree and gilded Prometheus statue will be open daily from 9 a.m. to midnight. Tickets range from $20 to $54 per person, depending on the date and time of day.
Americans from across the country flocked to the rink for the first open skate Saturday morning.
“So fun — this is the first time we’ve been here and we are horrible skaters,” Stephanie, from Utah, told 1010 WINS, “And it was amazing! I loved every minute of it. I felt like a five-year-old. It’s the whole, like — every movie that you’ve ever seen and now you’re a part of it, right?”

The rink was first opened in 1936, originally planned as a temporary feature. It’s been been featured in movies like “Made About You,” “Elf,” and “Home Alone 2: Lost In New York.”
This year's Christmas tree, a 79-foot-tall Norway Spruce donated by a family in Maryland, will arrive in Rockefeller Center on Nov. 13.
“It’s a super special experience. So I don’t think anything is as special as skating here — the sentimentality and you’re right under the watchful eye of Prometheus,” said Danielle, from Buffalo.
Visitors this year are not required to show proof of vaccination to skate outdoors. Though all ticketholders ages 2 and older are required to wear face masks while indoors.
Masks are also not required while skating outside.
