NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The California woman dubbed “SoHo Karen” after she falsely accused a Black teen of stealing her cell phone last year at a lower Manhattan hotel told the New York Post Monday she regrets her behavior.

While awaiting a court appearance in New York Monday, Miya Ponsetto said she “made a mistake” and regrets how she apologized to the boy, Keyon Harrold Jr., then 14, and his family after allegedly attacking the teen at Manhattan’s Arlo Hotel.
“I just wish I had apologized differently,” Ponsetto, 23, told the Post.
Ponsetto made national headlines after a video of the incident circulated online.

Days later, she gave an interview to “CBS This Morning” anchor Gayle King during which she claimed she couldn’t be racist because she is a person of color while wearing a baseball cap with “Daddy” embroidered across the front.
“I feel sorry that I made the family go through, like, all of that stress. But at the same time, it wasn’t just them going through that,” Ponsetto told the Post.
“I’m sincerely sorry to the family and the dad and the son for making them feel as if I was racist towards them when that is not my intention,” she added.
Ponsetto has pleaded not guilty to a hate crime charge. She also faces a lawsuit from the family of Harrold, who is the son of jazz trumpeter Keyon Harrold.
