NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Passengers on a 2 train in the Bronx intervened to thwart a would-be thief who left a 34-year-old man with facial fractures, police said Thursday.

The suspect approached the victim aboard the northbound 2 train at the Jackson Avenue station Tuesday around 6:40 a.m. and repeatedly punched the victim in the face.

He then attempted to take his property and his bag, police said.

That's when his fellow subway riders intervened, and the thief fled the train empty-handed.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital by EMS and treated for his injuries.
