VIDEO: Curtis Sliwa points out gun under SUV after UWS shooting wounds 2

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – Two people were shot on the Upper West Side on Tuesday night—and Republican mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa was seen lying next to an SUV, where he pointed out what he said was a gun on the ground.

The two victims were shot at Amsterdam Avenue and W. 89th Street around 9 p.m., police said.

A woman in her 40s was struck in the hand and a 27-year-old man was shot in the chest, according to police.

Both victims were taken to an area hospital and are expected to survive. Citizen App video shows multiple ambulances at the scene.

Sliwa, who lives two blocks away, was spotted walking near the crime scene with his Guardian Angels patrol group.

At one point, Sliwa lied on the ground next to an SUV and pointed out what appeared to be a handgun under the vehicle. “There it is,” he said.

Police confirmed to WABC that a gun was found under an SUV at the scene.

“Here’s the gun, obviously thrown aside,” Sliwa said while lying next to the vehicle. “Might have been responsible for shooting two separate people on the block before us. The cops have the area cordoned off.”

“It’s crime time on the Upper West Side,” he added. “Hey, this is my hood, I live here like so many other people. Crime is everywhere—everywhere.”

“When young men and young women carry guns with impunity, it makes for lawlessness in all neighborhoods, including the Upper West Side, which never before had these problems even in the 70s and 80s,” Sliwa said.
