The 25-year-old woman was shot at E. 14th Street and Irving Place in Gramercy just after 5 a.m.
EMS responded and pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

Her body was lying on a sidewalk outside a Chipotle as police investigated in the shadow of NYU dorms and high-end apartments.
The victim’s identity has been withheld pending the notification of her family.
The suspected shooter—described by police as a “heavyset” man wearing all black clothing and a mask—fled the scene on foot.

Mayor Eric Adams said later in the morning that little is known about a possible motive as the investigation continues.
“It appears as though the young lady was an intended target,” the mayor said. “We don’t have much more than that at this time.”
A witness who gave his name as John said he was setting up his coffee cart for the day when gunfire erupted nearby.
“I heard a loud boom,” he said. “And there was a lady on the floor.”
No arrests have been made as the investigation continues.
