COPIAGUE, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — A 13-year-old boy has been arrested after he threatened to "shoot teachers and students" at his Suffolk County middle school on social media on Monday, police said.

The shooting was allegedly threatened in a social media group chat by the teen — who was charged with making a threat of mass harm — if Copiague Middle School was "in session" on Monday.

Suffolk County Police said that the post was shared by multiple students, and a parent notified school officials, who called authorities.

Police said the boy, whose name has not been released due to his age, is set to be arraigned at a later date.

In a separate, unconnected and "non-credible" threat to Copiague High School, Newsday reported that police were investigating a bomb threat, which prompted an evacuation and dismissal.

"The Suffolk County Police Department has concluded their search of the building and has cleared the building," said Joseph Agosta, the high school principal, in a statement. "There is an ongoing police investigation," he added.

Agosta described the evacuation as "a smooth dismissal from campus" and that classes would "resume as normal" on Tuesday.

According to the outlet, the high school was evacuated because police were notified around 7:30 a.m., shortly before classes began. The middle school was not evacuated because the threat was received at around 5:35 a.m., allowing the building to be cleared before students arrived.

In a letter to parents and guardians, Superintendent Kathleen Bannon described the "morning events" at both schools as "unsettling," adding that she wanted to "reassure [the] community that these were isolated incidents, which have both been deemed as non-credible threats by Suffolk County Police Department."

The threats at the Copiague schools came the same day a 16-year-old boy was caught with a loaded gun and a knife at a Queens high school amid a series of teen gun arrests at city schools.
