SAYREVILLE, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A 19-year-old man pleaded guilty to sending an antisemitic manifesto over social media that led the FBI to warn synagogues across New Jersey to increase security, according to the Department of Justice.
Omar Alkattoul sent messages to at least six people over social media around Nov. 1, 2022, officials said.
The messages included a link to an antisemitic manifesto titled “When Swords Collide” in which Alkattoul threatened violence and referred to himself as “the attacker.”
“Many more attacks like these against the enemy of Allah and the pigs and monkeys will come,” he wrote. “It’s in the context of an attack on Jews.”
The FBI issued a warning to New Jersey synagogues and recommended increases in security.
“We ask at this time that you take all security precautions to protect your community and facility,” the agency said, citing “credible information of a broad threat” to synagogues in New Jersey.
“This defendant admitted using social media to send a manifesto containing a threat to attack a synagogue based on his hatred of Jews. This prompted a state-wide alert and put the community on edge, ” U.S. Attorney Philip Sellinger said. “No one should be targeted for violence or with acts of hate because of how they worship.”
Alkattoul faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine when he’s sentenced on Nov. 14.
