CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A New Jersey man who was arrested for the fatal shooting of his wife at their home earlier this month will remain in jail while awaiting trial, a judge said Wednesday.
The 39-year-old Millville man, Edwin D. Ramos-Rosado, allegedly killed his 35-year-old wife, Ramy Garcia, at their home on North 4th Street on Nov. 2, authorities said.
Garcia was found by officers around 4:30 p..m. in the backyard of her home with a gunshot to her head. According to a police report, witnesses told cops they had seen the couple “struggling over a firearm” before Garcia was shot.
During a hearing on Wednesday, prosecutors said it seemed as though Garcia was attempting to leave the home with the couple’s children. Her and her oldest son’s passport were found near her body and clothing was sprawled out around the house with suitcases sitting out.
Ramos-Rosado fled the scene after the shooting with the couple’s three kids who he later left with his family about a block away from his home. He was arrested early the next day, around 1 a.m., when officers found him in the backseat of his car in the parking lot of a Bellmawr WaWa.
Cops charged Ramos-Rosado with murder and remanded him without bail because he was seen as a flight risk due to his behavior and the fact that he has family in Puerto Rico and New York.
