OLD BRIDGE, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A fight over a woman in a New Jersey parking lot last week ended with her boyfriend fatally running over her ex.
Marvin L. Tyler, 32, was charged with aggravated manslaughter and two weapons offenses following the Nov. 29 altercation in an Old Bridge medical office parking lot that resulted in the death of Jason Freeman, 36.
According to a criminal affidavit reviewed by NJ.com, the woman the men argued about is Tyler's girlfriend, an ex-girlfriend of Freeman.
Five days before Freeman was killed, the woman filed a report with Sayreville Police accusing Freeman of harassing her.
Tyler said that on the day of the fight, he arrived at the building with his girlfriend's car to pick her up from work when Freeman approached him, according to the affidavit.
He told investigators that Freeman questioned him and then entered his girlfriend’s car to remove the vehicle’s paperwork and a new iPhone in a sealed box.
The affidavit said the two sparred briefly over the phone before Freeman brandished a knife and began walking back to his vehicle with the iPhone.
Tyler said he re-entered the car, and Freeman allegedly attempted to slash the vehicle's tires.
He then admitted to running Freeman over multiple times and fleeing, the affidavit said.
Freeman, 36, was pronounced dead around 5:05 p.m. outside the medical offices.
Court documents show that Old Bridge Police found a knife, the iPhone and his ex-girlfriend’s vehicle’s documents in Freeman's car.
Tyler was arrested and charged after he surrendered to the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office.
