
HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (WCBS 880) — On Monday, the Hamilton Police Department announced the death of a 52-year-old lieutenant who died at his New Jersey home on Saturday afternoon.

Officers responded to the Robbinsville home of Mark Horan where they found him dead of a gunshot wound which an investigation later found was a suicide, the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office said.
The father of five, who was described as a devoted husband who was well-liked and respected by all, had been a police officer since 1998.
“I ask the Hamilton Township community to join me in keeping the Horan family and Hamilton Police Division family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time,” Hamilton Mayor Jeff Martin said in a statement posted to Facebook.
Horan began his career in the patrol before moving on to the anti-crime and detective units serving as both an officer and supervisor. In 2010, he was promoted to sergeant and in 2017 he became a lieutenant. A recipient of numerous awards, Horan’s latest assignment was an administrative supervisor in patrol.
“He will be greatly missed,” Chief of Police James M. Stevens said in the statement. “On behalf of the entire Police Division, our thoughts and prayers are with Lieutenant Horan’s family.
