Off duty NJ sheriff's officer dies after crashing car into brick wall

OCEAN COUNTY, N.J. (WCBS 880) — An off-duty Ocean County Sheriff’s Officer died after crashing his car into a brick wall in Lakewood, New Jersey early Monday, officials said.

In a statement from the Lakewood Police Department, officials said officers responded to a single-car crash at about 3:45 a.m. near Shorrock Street and Dumbarton Drive around the town’s border with Brick.

The victim, 41-year-old Brian Stockhoff of Jackson was driving a 2005 Toyota Sienna when he hit the wall of Leisure Village East community while traveling south on Sharrock Street, according to a department investigation.

Stockoff was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by the department as well as the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.

“We are saddened to hear of our brother’s, Officer Stockhoff, untimely passing,” a statement from Ocean County Sheriff’s PBA Local #379 said. “Brian started our Mounted Unit and his smile was infectious, genuine and brought light into any room he entered. We ask that you please keep his family in your thoughts as we all take time to grieve this heavy loss.”
