Holly Acker, 42, was charged with one count of animal cruelty and one count of violating the Suffolk County Code for leaving the Labrador mix dog outdoors with no access to food, water or heat for more than 12 hours, police said.

Worried neighbors saw the dog outside and allegedly tried to repeatedly knock on Acker’s door and get her to bring the dog inside.

Acker told investigators she was “passed out” inside of her home. Her neighbors attempted to aid the labrador by giving the dog food, water, blankets and a foam bed as they were unable to take the dog with them.

Acker is due to appear in First District Court Central Islip on Feb. 10.

The Suffolk County SPCA urged the public to contact them at (631) 382-7722 if anyone witnesses any incident of animal cruelty or neglect in Suffolk County.
