MAPLEWOOD, N.J. (WCBS 880/1010 WINS) — When firefighters arrived at a New Jersey house fire Wednesday morning, sources told WCBS 880 they discovered the homeowner in the basement with four alleged self-inflicted stab wounds.
Her Facebook page said she was to be evicted Monday due to non-payment of taxes after a yearslong court battle to keep the Maplewood home she grew up in.
"I had a feeling she was going to try and kill herself," said her neighbor Colette Peters. "I really did."
Peters said the woman was posting on her Facebook page something that "almost sounded like 'farewell'" and "'I love my parents.'"
The homeowner had set up a GoFundMe page in an attempt to save her home, raising $8,000 toward her $100,000 goal.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office is now investigating after investigators say multiple fires were set at the home.
The woman is being treated at a local hospital.
