Looks like the Vikings will be in need of a new starting tight end for a majority, if not the whole season.
ESPN's Adam Schefter says sources have told him Irv Smith Jr. underwent surgery to repair the meniscus in his knee, and that recovery will take four to five months, putting his season is serious jeopardy.
Smith, who was set to replace Kyle Rudolph, injured his knee in last Friday's preseason finale against the Kansas City Chiefs. Yesterday, the Vikings traded for Jets tight end Chris Herndon.
