Hopefully you got your Christmas and holiday shopping done, as yesterday’s winter storm and the forecast for blizzard conditions could put a damper on the holiday season.

Leading up to the final week before Christmas, shopping has been great, according to Mall of America Chief Business Development and Marketing Officer Jill Renslow.

“Traffic’s been fantastic. Our retailers are happy with sales,” Renslow said, adding that it's mostly due to sales being spread out through the season, with many having deals often and early.

However, the storm came in at the very end of the holiday shopping season, a terrible time for many retailers looking to make final sales.

“Everyone was preparing for these blizzard conditions. It definitely got a little quieter as the day went on,” Renslow said.

Renslow said the snow on Wednesday — the day before, the day before Christmas Eve — has had an impact on shopping, both with customers getting to the mall, and retailers having enough employees to work.

But she said the mall and its stores will do whatever it takes to remain open as scheduled until Christmas, so shoppers can “finish up their lists.”

“The staff that’s here is ready to have a fantastic holiday season, and we want to deliver that for our guests,” Renslow said.
