
The Minneapolis Federation of Teachers and Education Support Professionals are on strike after failing to reach an agreement, with picket lines going up Tuesday morning.

Minneapolis Public Schools sent out an email telling parents what they should do to prepare for the strike canceling classes starting on Tuesday.
In the email, MPS says that parents need to arrange child care as they will only have emergency services PK-5 child supervision on a limited basis due to staffing shortages. The email also states that a a meal bag containing on breakfast and one lunch will be available for pickup starting on Wednesday.
The Minneapolis union filed its intent to strike, asking for smaller class sizes, better pay for teachers, a starting wage set at $35,000 for education support professionals, and more mental health professionals in buildings.
"We continue to see band-aids put on the table, the status quo, and our students can't afford to keep going like this," MFT 59 president Greta Callahan said in February.
