Jack Edwards has not hidden the fact that he is unhappy about NESN still not sending him and Andy Brickley on the road for Bruins broadcasts. What happened Thursday night will surely only add to that frustration.
As the third period of Boston's game in Seattle began, Edwards joked that he and Brickley might be burning up because there was a fire alarm going off at NESN's Watertown studio, where the duo have been calling every Bruins road game off monitors for the last two seasons.
Apparently the alarm didn't stop. A few minutes later, Edwards announced to viewers that they were being forced to evacuate the building. NESN quickly flipped over to the Kraken's home television broadcast, featuring play-by-play voice John Forslund and color commentator J.T. Brown on Root Sports Northwest.
Edwards and Brickley would end up missing a little over seven minutes of game action in the third period of a tied game. When they returned with just over 10 minutes left in regulation, Edwards excitedly announced, "The building didn't burn down!"
First and foremost, it's obviously good news that the situation wasn't more serious. But it's also yet another reminder that broadcasting from a studio in Watertown is not the same as going on the road and broadcasting from the arena.
The Bruins went on to win 3-2 in overtime on Jake DeBrusk's second goal of the game and fourth in the last three games.
"Dare I say it? Jake DeBrusk is burning down the house!," Edwards exclaimed in classic Jack fashion.
