jones and mego: bailey zappe joins the show following patriots 21-18 win vs. steelers

The Patriots' win over the Steelers last Thursday was just their third of the 2023 season, but it was one that has seemingly put some wind in the sails of a once down-and-out football team.

The 21-18 victory was also the third of quarterback Bailey Zappe's career, putting him at 3-1 as an NFL starter.

Zappe joined WEEI’s Jones and Mego on Monday afternoon and was asked if his winning ways say about his ability as a signal caller:

“The most important thing, of course, is to win,” Zappe told the show. “And that’s the thing I try to do every week, is to try to do my job the best I can to put the team in the best possible situation to win games. We were able to do that last week.”

“It's always good to get a win,” he explained. “Winning's hard in the league and things haven't been going our way totally this entire season. So to be able to go into a hostile environment against a great team and come out with a win was a great feeling.”

The second-year quarterback threw for 240 yards and three touchdowns in New England’s win, but admits that after a scoreless second half he has more work to do.

“There are some things I have to clean up going into this week,” Zappe said. “But for me, it’s just trying to do my job. Not trying to do anything too extra. I’m just doing what I'm coached to do and learning from my mistakes and just trying to get the ball to the playmakers and let them do what they do best.”

New England's now-starting quarterback also spoke about attending the Army-Navy game at Gillette Stadium, his stance as a fan of Taylor Swift (who may be in attendance on Sunday), and more on Monday’s edition of Jones and Mego. You can listen to the full interview here.
