Bill Belichick says Patriots have 'pretty good' talent around Mac Jones on offense

The Patriots got trounced by the Cowboys on Sunday. The 38-3 final score was exactly that: never all that close and a game New England never seemed to be up for.

The offensive weapons surrounding quarterback Mac Jones weren’t the A1 problem. At least in this one, anyway. Far more went wrong on Sunday.

The question will always be asked, however, as Jones is considered a smart, serviceable signal caller who could potentially thrive in a system with high-end talentt around him.

On Monday’s edition of WEEI’s The Greg Hill Show, head coach Bill Belichick was asked about the quality of weaponry surrounding his quarterback (listen to the full interview above):

“Yeah, I think we have pretty good talent on offense,” Belichick said. “We just haven’t been able to find a consistent groove with it.”

Is that from scheme perspective? He was asked:

“It’s more of a consistency thing," the head coach explained. "One breakdown, one or two breakdowns on each play with some other good things being done but ultimately that one breakdown causes the play not to be successful. I think once we get hitting on a more consistent basis we can eliminate that one problem, or one technique, or one fundamental thing that comes up on individual plays and the results will be a lot better. But we haven’t done a good enough job on that and until we get there, it’s still obviously a problem.”

Obviously may be an understatement. The mistakes, or 'breakdowns' as Belichick calls them, haven't gone away and have continued to be the bullet that shoots New England's offense in the foot. Until that changes, ‘pretty good’ talent on offense won't be good enough.

Belichick also spoke about the direction of the organization, Mac Jones’ confidence, and more on Monday’s edition of The Greg Hill Show. You can listen to the full interview here.
