ken & curtis: seth Wickersham joins to detail his latest ESPN article
The latest chapter in the soap opera that is Robert Kraft vs. Bill Belichick came this week via reporting from ESPN's Seth Wickersham, Don Van Natta, and Jeremy Fowler.
The piece titled "Inside Belichick's failed offseason job hunt" detailed the former Patriots coach's quest for a new gig following his departure from New England -- with the biggest takeaway being that Robert Kraft reportedly gave a "stark" review of his long-time head man in charge to Falcons owner Arthur Blank, and warned him "not to trust Bill."
Wickersham, one of the story's co-authors who in the past has also peeled back the curtain on plenty of other drama inside the walls of Gillette Stadium, joined WEEI's Ken & Curtis on Saturday morning and was asked what Belichick could have possibly done for Kraft to act out in the way he has since their breakup:
"From Belichick's point of view," he explained, "sources have told us that he's not exactly sure why all this is coming out, why Kraft said the things that he said in 'The Dynasty', pointing fingers at him so much."
"I think it's interesting how narratives work," Wickersham continued. "Like you have the past two years of Patriots football where they've looked pretty bad offensively and there was a narrative where Belichick's kind of lost his fastball, that it was all Brady, that the 'Patriot Way' as it turns out is not divisible. And then 'The Dynasty' comes out, in which Kraft looks into the camera and confirms a bunch of reporting that we and others had sent out over the years that he had denied, showing just how bad those relationships were -- in fact they were worse than any of us knew... and then he's out of a job and then he really doesn't get much of look outside of the Falcons to be a head coach. And now all of a sudden... people are remembering that this guy has authored some of the most brilliant gameplans in NFL history... and I think that there's a new appreciation for Bill that's coming out."
Wickersham also spoke about Belichick potentially showing up to Tom Brady's Patriots Hall of Fame ceremony, whether he'll ultimately coach again, and more on Saturday morning's edition of Ken & Curtis. You can listen to the full interview here.
