Last week we heard from former Patriots cornerback Ty Law on what it’s like to negotiate a contract with Bill Belichick. This week? It’s Christian Fauria’s turn.

The former Super Bowl winning tight end and current host of “Gresh and Fauria” on WEEI peeled back the curtain on Tuesday’s crossover with The Greg Hill Show:

“I was like a real jerk about it because I had been screwed over so many times,” Fauria said on his contract talks with coach Belichick. “The first thing I said is, ‘I’m gonna be real brutally honest with you and I hope you do the same.’ I was like 30-something. It was enough with the games.”

Fauria didn’t want to have to practice every day, given that he had been hurt in the past and didn’t want to risk it again.

"I didn’t want them doing back-to-back workouts, tearing my ankles up, having to chase my health. I was like, ‘I’m not doing it, I won’t feel better 'til October!”

Fauria continued: “I said, ‘You’ve got to take care of me,’ and he said, ‘Don’t worry about it, I got it.” But Fauria didn’t trust it.

“I asked them to sign a whole thing, they wouldn’t do it. [Bill] said, ‘I’ll take care of you’, I said fine, whatever, but regretted it.”

The Patriots ended up keeping their word to Fauria. "He kept his word to me. They took care of me my entire career."

All of this contract talk comes on the heels of a reported visit with free agent wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who reportedly is not a fan of practice. The wide receiver is expected to visit New England on Wednesday and Thursday.
