For the first time since signing with the Patriots on August 14, running back Ezekiel Elliott has spoken.

In an interview with Patriots.com’s Tamara Brown, the former Cowboy discussed his arrival in New England, what lured him to sign with the team, and more.

“It feels good,” Elliott said when asked what it’s like being on the ground in Foxborough. “Been at home for a while so it feels good to get back to ball, get out there, get on the field, and play the game I love.”

Elliott, who split time with Tony Pollard in Dallas last season and has worked with other backfields by committee before, was asked what it’s been like so far with the Patriots:

“It’s been a lot of fun. I think I’ve been getting along well with the team,” he said. “I’ve known Rhamondre for a couple years or so. It’s nice having him in the running back room. I think I’ve been a good fit and I’ve been having fun.”

This offseason, the Patriots brought in coordinator Bill O’Brien and line coach Adrian Klemm among others to help rejuvenate a stagnant offense. Elliott said that’s one of the reasons why he chose New England:

“Just the importance of the back in this offense,” Zeke said of what attracted him to signing here. “I think, this is definitely a team that wants to run the ball, wants to be balanced.”

Balance. That’s the key. And the person who will help keep that balance is quarterback Mac Jones. Here are Zeke's first impressions of the signal caller:

“Mac’s a, he’s a pro. He’s a pro. He does everything like a pro I could tell just from going to dinner with him on my visit. He’s a great leader.”

And, most importantly, what’s Elliott looking forward to most about being a Patriot?

“Just going out there and competing for a championship.”
