Based on everything that happened with Deflategate over the years, one would assume there's some friction between Bill Belichick and Roger Goodell.

That apparently is not the case.

According to excerpts from ESPN senior writer Seth Wickersham's new Patriots book, "It's Better to Be Feared," which will be released next month, Belichick and Goodell are closer than many believe.

The book notes the pair "secretly met in an airplane hangar to discuss rule changes -- even as aides unsuccessfully pleaded with Goodell to drop the Deflategate inquiry, worried about the long-term damage to the league brand."

It also says the morning after the Patriots' Super Bowl win over the Falcons, Belichick hugged Goodell and "lifted him off the ground."
